How does Uber work in Nice?

Uber works in Nice exactly as it does at home: you open the app, enter where you are going, see a price estimate, and pay in the app. There is no need to speak French or carry cash.

  1. Open the Uber app and type your destination in the “Where to?” box. Check that the pickup pin is where you are standing.
  2. Compare the options. Each one shows a price estimate. Prices vary with the time of day and how many people are requesting rides.
  3. Confirm the ride. Once a driver accepts, you see their photo, the car details and its position on the map.
  4. Check the plate before you get in, then pay automatically at the end of the trip.

Travelling as a group? Uber says one account holder can order up to 3 rides on demand, and each ride must start before the next one is requested (Uber Nice). In practice, a group of seven with suitcases usually means two or three separate cars.

At Nice Airport, Uber drivers wait in the “Parking Pro” area, not at the terminal doors. At Terminal 1 you leave through Exit D4; at Terminal 2 you leave through Exit A3. Follow the signs for “Parking Pro – Ride App Pick-up”.

Terminal 1: Exit D4

  1. After baggage claim, turn right and walk to the Departures hall.
  2. Head straight towards Exit D4, following the “Parking Pro – Ride App Pick-up” signs.
  3. Turn left and leave the terminal through door D4, then keep following the signs to Parking Pro.

Terminal 2: Exit A3

  1. After baggage claim, follow the yellow Taxi signs towards Exit A3.
  2. In the main hall, turn right to Exit A3.
  3. Go straight on and follow the “Parking Pro – Ride app Pick-up” signs to meet your driver.

Directions come from Uber’s Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 pages. Older advice, including an older Uber newsroom article, still tells you to look for the Kiss-and-Fly area, so trust the directions in the app on the day. Your driver may also message you to agree a different meeting point.

Official taxis are easier to find: the taxi rank is at entrance A3 of both terminals, according to Nice Côte d’Azur Airport. Not sure which terminal you land at? • Flight tracking: you add your flight details, and Uber notifies you of cancellations or significant delays.
  • Free cancellation until one hour before pickup, or while no driver has accepted the trip.
  • Waiting time: for UberX, Comfort and UberXL, you must meet your driver within 45 minutes of your flight’s arrival before late fees apply.
  • In the city: Uber’s Nice page says rides can be reserved up to 30 days ahead.

When does Uber not work well in Nice?

Uber is reliable for everyday trips in Nice, but it lets visitors down in a few predictable situations. Plan ahead for these and you will rarely be stuck.

  • Getting back from Monaco. Monaco runs its own official taxi service, Taxi Monaco, and Uber cannot pick you up inside the Principality. VisitMonaco lists Taxi Monaco as the official service, and the Monaco government moved to enforce its ban on Uber in 2020. Take the train back to Nice, or book Taxi Monaco. Please note that Luxotica does not operate in Monaco either.
  • Peak demand. Uber prices change with the time of day and the number of people requesting rides. After a concert, a match at the Allianz Riviera or a summer evening on the Promenade, expect higher prices and longer waits.
  • Big groups and lots of luggage. The largest standard option, Van, seats up to 6. Seven people with suitcases need two cars, which may not arrive together.
  • Hill villages at night. Getting dropped in Èze or Saint-Paul-de-Vence is easy. Getting a car to come back up for you late in the evening is less certain, so arrange the return before you go.
  • Airport arrivals. The Parking Pro area is a walk from arrivals, and the 45-minute waiting limit on reserved rides starts when your flight lands, not when you clear passport control.

What are the alternatives to Uber in Nice?

The main alternatives to Uber in Nice are Bolt, official taxis, the tram and a pre-booked private chauffeur. Each one wins in a different situation.

Bolt offers rides in Nice and to and from the airport (Bolt Nice). It is worth having both apps and checking both prices.

Official taxis charge fixed 2026 fares from the airport of €32 to Nice Centre, €72 to Antibes / Juan-les-Pins and €85 to Cannes, excluding supplements, according to the airport. The official dispatch centre, Taxi Nice Riviera, also has its own app for trips from the city. Our guide on how to get a taxi in Nice explains ranks and phone numbers.

Tram line 2 links both terminals with the city centre at Jean Médecin and the port at Port Lympia, about every 8 minutes on weekdays. Trips to the airport need the €10 Aéro return ticket or a loaded Lignes d’Azur card; a standard city ticket costs €1.70 (Lignes d’Azur).

Uber or a private chauffeur in Nice: which should you choose?

Choose Uber for short, flexible trips when you travel light. Choose a pre-booked chauffeur when the trip has to go right the first time: a late landing, children and suitcases, a group, or a client you are responsible for.

We drive Nice every day, and this is what we would tell a friend:

  • Use Uber for a couple heading from the Old Town to the Musée Matisse, a solo trip to Nice-Ville station, or a daytime ride along the Promenade des Anglais.
  • Use the tram if you land in daylight with one small bag and stay near Jean Médecin or the port.
  • Book a chauffeur for a late or delayed flight, a family with luggage, a group of up to 7 in one vehicle, an early-morning departure, or a busy event week such as the Cannes Film Festival or MIPIM.

With Luxotica, the price is fixed and agreed before the trip, our English-speaking chauffeurs track your flight, and your driver meets you inside the terminal rather than in a car park. We are available 24/7. If you need the car for several stops in one day, our hourly chauffeur hire in Nice keeps the same driver with you.
